Michael Bolden is editorial director at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, where he manages internal, external and third-party content and storytelling. Prior to joining Knight, Michael was transportation and development editor at The Washington Post, where he led an award-winning reporting team. He was one of the first supervisory editors in the Post’s converged newsroom, developing storytelling strategies for print, Web and social platforms. He has managed stories with national impact, including the growth of errors by U.S. air traffic controllers, which led to systemic changes by the Federal Aviation Administration.During his tenure at The Washington Post, Michael also edited for the Post’s Style section and The Washington Post Magazine.Before The Washington Post, Michael was an editor at the Miami Herald. He has also reported and edited for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans and the Northwest Florida Daily News in Fort Walton Beach. In 2011 Michael was a fellow for the Maynard Media Academy at Nieman Foundation at Harvard University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama, where he studied literature and journalism.
